Faro is a popular tourist destination in the Algarve region of Portugal, which means that holidays here can be a tad expensive. If you want to visit this incredible place then here are some priceless tips that will ensure you save money on your next holiday there!
Pick when to book
Many holiday companies will have their own ‘sales’ during certain times of the year. This tends to be when people aren’t really looking at booking holidays and are concentrating on other things.
You will find that the best times of year to book a holiday will be during October to November and then after the Christmas rush. This doesn’t mean that you have to visit Faro during those times, just that they are the best months to book your holiday!
Visit Faro Off-Peak
Like every popular tourist destination, there are peak times when everybody wants to visit Portugal or Faro in particular. If you can, try and book a holiday to depart on the outside of the season.
Peak season times tend to be during the school summer holidays, as well as Easter breaks and half terms. If you don’t have kids then you will be lucky enough to book a holiday off-peak without any problems.
Those with children should think about booking a holiday a week or two back into a new term (September). The weather in Faro will still be incredible but the prices will be a lot cheaper. Also, by letting your children go back to school for a week they will not miss out on new classes, timetables and so on.
Create your own luxury
Those who cannot afford all of the 5 star luxuries may be able to do so on a budget, by making their own luxury! This could be anything from taking your own massage oils and beauty products for a ‘spa day’ (remember to check airlines rules on liquids) or popping to the local Portuguese supermarket and creating a picnic to take to the beach.
Think about how you save money at home, on normal things, and put these into place when on holiday in Faro too!
Visit the free sights
When you get to Faro you do not necessarily have to spend a fortune on sightseeing, there are plenty of free things to do too! Visit the Old Town and soak in the culture, or just spend every day sunning yourself at the beach!
Save some money up for the biggest attractions like The Chapel of Bones or one of the many interesting museums. They are not overpriced so you don’t need to spend a fortune on these!
If you are booking a package holiday then you will need to take a look through the extras and decide if you really do need them. If you are visiting for a week then you may be able to squeeze everything in hand luggage, instead of paying extra for a suitcase.Other ways you can save money on a package holiday is by doing it yourself. Sometimes, booking the flights and hotel separately can save you plenty of money, but only if you do it right! Some companies will offer a better deal than doing it yourself, so weigh up your options first.
Think about the extras in your package
If you want to rent a car, then do all of your research before you get to Faro, save here on car rental deals. The same goes with tours and activities too. You will be able to do a price comparison of different companies before making a decision when you actually get to Portugal.
Faro, in the Algarve region of Portugal, can be an incredible place for a holiday. It can be even better when you save money on it too! Bear these tips in mind when booking and save yourself some extra spending money for when you get there!
