Bucket lists, the record of everything you want to do before dying, say a lot about the person making them. Many people include having a family, graduating from college, and owning a home on their list. One would guess that these dreams are fairly common, as are travel destinations. Most people probably have some trip they dream of taking, but what if you could circle the world and make as many stops as you would like along the way? Sailing around the world not only offers an unparalleled sense of accomplishment, but it also allows the sailor to fulfil nearly every travel dream they have ever entertained.
Realizing Travel Dreams
As stated before, many people have some sort of dream travel destination. Whether it is backpacking through Europe, climbing to the top of Mount Everest, or scuba diving at the Great Barrier Reef, there is some adventure that everyone hopes to have some day. For some people, it might be impossible to choose only one place they would like to go. In that case, a trip around the world might be perfect. The sailor plans their stops and navigates the globe, inevitably seeing it in a unique way that cannot be duplicated by any flight. Certainly, sailing around the globe takes a great deal of time, planning, expertise, and determination. Still, it is perhaps the best way for any adventure seeker to experience as much of the world as possible.
Independence and Accomplishment
Travel and independence go hand in hand. One cannot hope to strike out into a new culture without harbouring a deep sense of self-sufficiency. This is especially true for anyone hoping to circle the globe on a sailboat. However, this is not meant to discourage anyone from taking on this challenge. In fact, simply accomplishing such a lofty goal is reason enough to do it.
Unexpected Beauty & Experiences
It might seem strange, but for anyone who has travelled before they know that sometimes the best experiences are the spontaneous and unexpected ones. It is inevitable that a sailor navigating the world will run into unexpected challenges, but it will also be filled with moments of pure bliss and natural beauty. Whether it’s the luxury of diving into warm waters, negotiating with locals for fresh fruit, or enjoying the sunset there are sure to be thousands of moments spent revelling in the journey. These moments, which cannot be planned, can be anticipated and should be the driving force behind the desire to see the word from a boat’s deck.
It is easy to make a list of things to do, see, buy, earn, and love before you die. You can imagine seeing the world and having lived a life that you are proud of, but actually making it a reality can be difficult. For anyone who truly dreams of living life to the fullest and experiencing the vibrant cultures of the world, then sailing around the world is meant for you. Experiencing everything the world has to offer is reason enough to go out and see as much of it as possible.
