Miami, the third most popular city in the US (I think is after LA and New York) is a cosmopolitan metropolis with plenty of attractions, nightlife and shopping. In fact, Miami is regarded as one of the most rapidly growing cities in America, with skyline fast rival New York!
Miami which is climatically different from most places in the USA, appeals to tourists and travellers who want warm sun, great beaches, world class entertainment in clubs and bars or a laid back lifestyle. With a large proportion of residents from Central and South America, and Caribbean, I will not surprise that Miami holidays let you indulge yourself or your loved ones with a diverse mix of art, music and international cuisines with Latin music rings through the air here and there! No wonder many say that Miami is home to ‘Nuevo Latino’, meaning unique cooking styles from a mix of Caribbean, Latin American and European, hence the born of Florribean!
I have no comment on its sheer vibrancy and joie de vivre that arrests the comment that Miami is not a place for those who want a quiet and relaxing break, what I can say is that there are lots of sights to see and things to do! There are almost as many aspiring models and actors in Miami as in Los Angeles, in fact, going to the beach is more about seeing and being seen than just sunbathing!
Whatever it is, and back by facts, Miami is definitely a place that is literally filled with tourists and tourist destinations and attractions. To make your Miami trip memorable and enjoyable, and in addition to have the chance to sup a Cuba Libre or mojito, I would suggest not to miss the following:
South Beach (also known as Miami Beach Promenade) is the quintessential for a wonderful Miami beach experience, it is also well-known for being a trendy locale for shopping to partying! I would say South Beach is a place for everyone to see and be seen and allow you to show off your product of months in gym. This is also a favourite location for cyclists, skaters, joggers and skateboarders alike. But to see the spectacular rejuvenation of the 1920’s buildings in the Art Deco Historic District, I would say a walking tour around the South Beach precinct is recommended.
Zoo Miami, I personally feel that this is not an average but one of the best zoos in the nation. Miami has the advantage due to its climate (in fact, Miami is climatically very different from most places in the USA) that allows it to keep a wide variety of animals. You will find animals from Asia, Australia, Africa and many others; the best part is that the animals are kept cageless!
The Miami Seaquarium, is a fabulous stop where one can witness an outdoor aquarium experience such as outdoor marine show with dolphins and other sea creatures, and show featuring Lolita the killer whale, as well as the feeding and trainer presentation and so on. Miami Seaquarium is located right in the middle of the tourist area, and on the causeway between downtown Miami and Key Biscayne. Anyway, be sure to budget enough time to spend at least half a day there!
The Everglades, or the Everglades National Park is one of the most unusual public parks in the United States. Whether you are an adventurist, a researcher or simply want to find opportunity to walk, camp and canoe, I would say you wouldn’t be disappointed with this World Heritage Site. You may want to know that it is with more than a million acres of swamps, saw-grass prairies and sub-tropical jungles, and home to some rare and endangered species like the American Crocodile, the Florida Panther and the West Indian Manatee!
The Miami Science Museum which is found on South Miami Avenue, is an ideal place if you are travelling with your kids. I am sure you and your kids will find it a truly learning adventure for something that is educational and entertaining. The museum is also home to the Bird of Prey Research Center and the Weintraub Observatory. Do check out if you plan to go on Thanksgiving and Christmas, I doubt the Miami Science Museum is open!
The Miami Children’s Museum, is another must-see destination if you have kids or you want to act like kids. With The Miami Children’s Museum’s motto “Play, Learn, Imagine, Create”, it allows children to explore the interactive exhibits and for picking up valuable lessons along the way. Once here, don’t miss to view the exhibits like Mt. MiChiMu, the Port of Miami, and The Sea and Me, I am sure you can act like them too!
Coral Castle, a more than one thousand ton coral creation to the world, is truly a monument that reflects the uniqueness of Miami! To what I know this wonderful attraction was built by a Latvian-born Miami resident named Ed Leedskalnin as a monument to his lover, after putting in 28 years of effort. Although it is a trip from downtown, but I find that it is well worth the time.
What I mentioned here is just a brief overview of some of Miami tours and attractions available for you and your family to enjoy. In fact, there are more for everyone, for example, the Key West day trip from Miami is a wonderful way to venture out to the Keys whiles the Jungle Island Miami encompassing relaxation, family fun, and excitement! Oh, before I forget, the Biscayne Bay Sightseeing offers the opportunity to have water born fun too! So when planning a Miami or Florida vacation, it pays to find deals on Florida holidays!
