There are places that leave an indelible mark in your heart when you visit. In most cases it’s the people, environment or the activities that you get to do there that makes you want to keep coming back, the place that you associate with good memories or good times.
For me, that place is the Kenyan Coast, to be specific Malindi town. It’s the unique destination that I turn to when I simply want to get away from the hustle and enjoy myself. Tourists know about the beauty of the Kenyan coast but most people only get to visit Mombasa, the bigger brother of Malindi with more hotels and closer to the capital city Nairobi than the rest of the coastal towns.
Malindi holds a special place in my heart because it has a lot to offer for someone like me who simply wants to relax and avoid the fast life.
The town has myriad of attractions that would make anyone want to come back after visiting. The weather which is mostly warm is excellent for anyone who wants to take advantage of the several beaches, but the best part about Malindi beaches is that because it is a small town, the beaches are never crowded and they are always clean.
Even the public beaches like the Marine Park beach which is the most popular never has a huge traffic of people that would limit you having a pleasant time at the beach. I love taking long walks on the beach especially during the sunset. The scenes are simply breathtaking and would make anyone unwind.
At night, there are several clubs that you can visit to dance and make new friends. Since, the town is small you can move from one club to another by walking. People are always walking on the streets at night especially during the weekend making it safe. What makes Malindi stand out according to me, is the availability of accommodation for anybody visiting at a convenient price. Malindi has several resorts and villas that lie along the beach and offer guests excellent services. The fact that they have many options for accommodation makes it great because I can always choose an accommodation package that suits me. If you do not get an accommodation package that includes meals, then there are several restaurants that offer different cuisines for visitors.
The meals mostly include sea food that is cheap because of the availability. Swahili food made by the locals is also served in most of the restaurants. The other thing that makes Malindi my favourite place to visit is the fact that I do not have to worry about transport. The shops, restaurants, night clubs and even the resorts are all found within the same location. You can simply walk from one place to another. If not, or if you fancy something a little more fancy, you can take tuktuks that are available everywhere, they drop people door to door. If you are new to the town most of the drivers know the places within Malindi and are always very willing to help.
I highly recommend a visit, and I honestly believe that once you get the bug for this town you will return again and again.
