The United Kingdom is fascinating, isn’t it? The mere title brings thoughts of the greatest known monarchy in the world and images of rolling hills covered with the greenest grass we’ve ever seen. But what is there in the UK that we would enjoy beyond that? Is there anything worthwhile of visiting on a trip? The fact is the UK is every bit as enchanting as it appears to be, and has long been a favorite destination among world travelers.
Britain
Britain makes up the majority of the UK and does not fail to delight with all the available activities. Stonehenge is a huge tourist attraction and for good reason. Stonehenge is a monument of standing stones that was constructed somewhere between 3000 and 2000 BC. It is absolutely amazing. Blackpool Pleasure Beach is not a beach at all, but instead an amusement park set along the coastline. It is the most popular amusement park in the UK. Also not to be missed is a drive through Cotswolds which is said to be the most beautiful part of England.
In And Around London
London is the heartbeat of Great Britain and never fails to delight with its many attractions. Of course, you must see the famed Buckingham Palace where Prince William recently kissed his new bride Kate. The Changing of the Guards is an impressive ceremony you want to see while at Buckingham. Westminster Abbey is a church that is over a thousand years old. It is beautiful and a must see. Large portions of the King James Bible were translated at this very place. Looking for a more lighthearted touch? Try London Zoo or Lego land. London Zoo boasts over 760 different species of animals. Lego land is the place for children to go, with shows to see, Lego cars to ride in and of course, and endless legos to build with. If you want to take in the highlights in a hurry, one of London’s double decker bus tours are the way to go.
Scotland
Of course, there is more to the UK than Great Britain. Let’s move on to Scotland, where you will want to walk Edinburgh’s Royal Mile. This mile is full of Scottish culture, history and some of the greatest architecture in all of Scotland. You don’t want to miss the Falkirk Wheel, which will wow you with its engineering genius. There are boat rides available or you can stand by and simply watch the wheel in action. Blair Drummond Safari Park is a great activity for the whole family. You will enjoy riding through the animal exhibits and walking through the petting zoo portion. So large is the Blair Drummond Safari Park that a full day is recommended to enjoy it all.
Northern Ireland
You won’t be sorry you visited this part of the UK. Northern Ireland is home to the Mourne Mountains where you won’t only take in their majesty but also be entertained by all the fun activities offered there. Another breathtaking sight is the Portrush Whiterocks Beach with its limestone cliffs, white sand and turquoise waters. You will want to stay forever. Belfast is the destination you need to stop at to experience Titanic Belfast, where the Titanic was built.
There are some helpful tips you want to know before your visit to the UK. British Pounds are the common currency. If you are traveling on a budget, trains and buses are the cheapest way to travel. Natives of the UK love visitors and are sure to make you welcome. Enjoy your stay.
