Two of the must do list when in Sydney is a cruise on Sydney Harbour. On a sparkly clear day, being out on the Harbour is a magic experience. If you can’t afford a luxury cruise, just catch one of the old Sydney ferries to Manly or Watsons Bay for fish and chips by the Harbour. Alternatively, take a fascinating Aboriginal cultural cruise aboard the Tribal Warrior, an old pearl lugger.
Sydney’s great icons are the Harbour Bridge and Opera House. Thrill seekers can climb to the top of the Bridge with Bridge climb. For a similar high altitude experience, take the Skywalk atop Sydney Tower, Sydney’s tallest building.
The historic Rocks precinct, site of Australia’s first European settlement, is another on the must-see list. Here you’ll find Australia’s oldest pubs, museums and galleries, the Museum of Contemporary Art and the Rocks Markets on weekends with hundreds of stalls and live entertainment.
Also worth exploring are the Art Gallery of NSW, the Museum of Sydney, the Maritime Museum and Hyde Park Barracks. The Royal Botanic Gardens are a beautiful place to take a leisurely stroll by the Harbour. Luna Park amusement park is a fun day out for all ages.
Taronga Park Zoo is another popular attraction. Camp there overnight on the harbour foreshore with the Roar and Snore experience. You can also camp (or ‘glamp’ in luxury tents) on Cockatoo Island.
And of course Bondi Beach is on most visitors’ must-do list but there are many more beaches to choose from, including tranquil harbour beaches like Balmoral and Nielsen Park.
