As feel the merengue rhythm and allow your senses to soak up the heady mix that symbolises the Dominican Republic. I certainly did just that when I visited this magnetic island.
As I close my eyes I can still see the crystalline turquoise waters sparkling in the intense sunshine. This memory is quite unique as it wasn’t just a fantastic beach moment. I will always remember this period of contemplation which followed the emotional whale watching excursion. Sometimes experiences can almost be beyond words and having the privilege to watch these monumental creatures was the highlight of a holiday filled with passion, glamour but also a palpable sense of peace.
To exit the rarefied atmosphere for a moment, the great thing I find about the Dominican Republic is the constant hot weather. Inevitably that impacts positively on one’s world view and the welcome extended from everyone, is always warm in every way. This island is culturally diverse and extraordinarily rich in history, being the first port of call for Columbus and therefore takes its place in the dramatic history of the New World discovery. Due to its lush climate, visits are possible just about at any time of the year and it’s my favourite destination when I just need to get away and grab some rays.
All year round sunshine
I tend to rely on this destination for all year round sunshine and I always know it is summer there if I need it. To avoid the extremes of temperature November to April, I might suggest is best and do remember August/ September is hurricane season which may or may not appeal!
Still I found it so easy to find my favourite season that fitted in with my work commitments while coupling that with the tailor-made holiday. I actually extended my time there last time very easily and economically. In fact tourists can now customise their holidays in any way they choose, more or less and often a twin centre vacation gives you the best of both worlds.
I took full advantage of this by combining a trip to Miami Beach, which was cosmopolitan and lived up to the hype, with a stay in Punta Cana which is a five-star froth of loveliness! Having booked the unlimited luxury package my stay in the Larimar Punta Cana allowed me to indulge in serious relaxation on a white sandy beach, where I spent much of my time just gazing out on to a turquoise sea or occasionally snorkelling. Nothing seemed to matter except my plans to enjoy a wide variety of spas and dining opportunities across the nearby dreams resorts. I didn’t even have to consider the money as unlimited meals drinks and snacks were included in the price.
The contrasts of The Caribbean
To visit this place one can experience extraordinary contrasts; street life is vibrant it beats to its own rhythm but step away and small villages still exhibit the tranquillity of a rural idyll. I liked these contrasts, look one way and you face the North Atlantic Ocean but turn the other and the gentler Caribbean Sea awaits. Of course the Dominican Republic is changing and some top quality beach resorts have been developed but it would be a shame not to explore all this exciting and diverse island has to offer these days.
Look closely at the photograph and you will see how attractive the Larimar Punta Cana hotel environs actually were; the gently swaying palm trees were almost hypnotic and if you need to unwind totally from a frenetic, urban existence you could wish for nothing better than a stay in this 5 star hotel. If the swimming area doesn’t appeal there are still plenty of secluded beaches which allow you to have the place pretty much to yourself. My travelling companion was a surfer and if this is your passion the Dominican Republic offers some stunning waves and is definitely worth exploring.
Blue lagoons and lush mangrove swamps remind you this destination is very different from home and consequently always find it so difficult to leave. It’s not only nature and sunshine that draws me time and again; the cuisine with its fusion of Spanish and African dishes is quite distinctive and I always enjoy sampling the vast array of tasty snacks and meals on offer both inside and outside the resort. Seafood too is delicious and tastes like nothing else you will have experienced being freshly caught and prepared.
I can’t think of a better all year round destination with warm sun and cooling sea breezes, so check it out now. The holiday place has over 25 years of experience putting together tailor made holidays to Domincan Republic.
