If your family likes to enjoy natural wonders, then New Zealand is a good travel destination for a great family getaway. With the geysers (i.e. spring that discharges hot water and steam), the gigantic limestone caves and mud spas, I am sure your family will experience natural wonders to cherish for a lifetime.
I would suggest you to take two hours away from Auckland, the capital city, from where will take you to Rotorua. Over there in Rotorua, your family can find amazing glow-worms in the Waitomo Caves and the explosive Pohutu Geyser which easily spews boiling hot water 10 to 20 times a day. And if your family members are adventurous sort, you may want to try the black-water rafting at Ruakuri. Another must-try is to avail yourself for a day trip to the Fiordland National Park, which will bring you past the scenic Te Anau and Mirror Lakes. In addition, you should hop on a boat to Milford Sound for a pounding waterfall carved by a glacier in the last ice age!
Smart Family Travel Tips
As for when is the best time to travel to those interesting places, I would suggest to travel in summer, i.e. from November to April is the most ideal. This is in view that year-ends are usually busy, hotels and holiday packages will cost more, so the best month to go should be from February to April. Don’t forget to get additional insurance coverage and to take the necessary precautions if your family is planning to try some of the more adventurous activities in New Zealand.
