Icarus Cup (Coupe Icare) is a four-day exciting, daring and hilarious Masquerade Flights that feature fancy-dressed paraglider and hang-glider pilots competing for handsome prizes.
The event which was started in 1973 as an offbeat tourist attraction by the commune of St-Hilaire, situated high in the Rhône-Alpes of south-east France, has now become a major annual festival.
You will notice that the participants fly through the air with ease, and they are wearing all sorts of weird and wonderful costumes. You can expect to find flies that are amusing and entertaining.
If you are there for the Icarus Cup, not only you can enjoy watching those spectacular Masquerade Flights, you too can attend the International Free Flight Film Festival, perhaps you got the chance to learn a flying skill and be featured in a film! In addition, the Icare Expo air sports trade fair will let you browse through a wide selection of specialist merchandise on offer!
The Icarus Cup event also features extraordinary performances, demonstrations and displays such as amazing aerobatics, parachuting, light helicopter flights, kite flying, boomerang throwing, model aircraft, birds-of-prey shows and others. In fact, more related activities are added every year.
There will have dozens of colourful hot-air balloons fly in an amusing way to entertain whoever is there!
Children are not left out too, numerous attractions are built around the Icare Momes facility. There also has children’s book fair, Icarus Cinema, street shows, kite-flying areas, music and workshop.
The Icarus Cup is held in every autumn, September in the combined sites of St-Hilarie du Touvet-Lumbin, Isère.
