When you go to a hotel, the last thing you think about is the person who stayed in the room before you. What was the person like, when did they leave, and in what condition? – These are all the questions we do not get answers to because they are kept behind the front desk.
All of them, and many more secrets are revealed in this list of things which the hotels are actually keeping away from you behind that dazzling smile and a warm welcome.
They want you to steal toiletries
Shampoos and other toiletries are actually there so that you can take them with you. The reason why the hotel leaves them there at your disposal is for two reasons: (1) so that you can use them, and (2) so that you promote their hotel. That is, actually, why they are putting their logo on them – as free marketing.
Small booking secrets
Timing is key in when you want to book a room. In fact, if you do not use a mediator site and call the hotel directly or send them an email, you can try to bargain and even get lower prices, up to 20 or 30% (which is the percentage booking companies charge for their services). If you call them in the morning or at night, the odds are that you are going to pay more than when you call them in the afternoon, around 4 to 5 pm.
Do not drink from their glass cups
If you want to quench your thirst the moment you enter the room, it would be better to restrain yourself from it. Glass cups used in hotel rooms are not being cleaned with liquid detergent, but usually water and cloth which was used to clean the room, so they contain a lot of germs that can be transmitted to your mouth directly.
All rooms are the same
This is one of the biggest lies that the front desk can tell you. For example, if you think about the building layout, it is not humanly possible to have all the rooms made the same. And not to talk about the interior. There will always be a room with a better view, larger bathroom, or a bigger TV screen.
Before you check in, you can ask the hotel staff to show you the room, just to be sure everything is in order. If there is nothing you can do to convince them to give you a better room, ask them for better options, such as late checkout, free movies or minibar.
Accidents and deaths
The truth is that the rooms are being cleaned a lot faster than you would have thought. Sometimes, accidents and even deaths can happen, and the hotel needs to clean the room up before it sees the next guest. These things happen under the veil of secret, so that no one can see them. The mystery around cleaning the room can sometimes involve taking the body out the back door and calling rubbish removal men to clean the room up from damage, destroyed sheets, rugs, chairs, etc., and they even disinfect it and paint the walls if necessary. However, the hotel will never tell you where the death or accident had occurred because hotel staff is usually not allowed to talk about it. They just do what they were told.
Even though it is fun to go on vacations, you can end up sitting in a dirty room. So make sure to ask for the service you want and report all irregularities you see.
