Travel apps and smartphones have made travelling easier, more convenient and more enjoyable no matter where your destination is. From booking flights and getting to the airport, to finding your hotel and saving money with the latest offers and deals, there really is a travel app for everything. The United Kingdom, as one of the world’s most popular tourist destinations, is no exception, and if before you make your trip you should check out some of these apps to help you get the most out of your journey as possible.
Mobile Reference’s London UK – Travel Guide:
This app helps you get the most out of your holiday with extensive GPS maps featuring sights and attractions, lists and articles about the top attractions, lists of the best restaurants individually selected by Mobile Reference editors, and detailed advice on where to go, what to see and how to get around. One of the great advantages of this app over its competitors is that the maps download to your device so you don’t need a network connection to access them; great for avoiding roaming charges, or for when you’re on the Tube travelling from place to place and have no signal. This app is available for £3.07 from Google Play and the App Store.

Hotel comparison apps are great for a vague overview of options, but just like flying, you end up saving money with brand loyalty – and you’re confident that you know what you’re going to get. If you already know that you’ll be staying in one of the Montcalm Luxury Hotels, then The Montcalm App is a must-have. You can browse through each of the group’s London hotels to decide which one is best for your trip to London, then choose your room type. You can then make your booking at the touch of a button, and edit, manage of cancel your reservation right up until check-in time. Once you’ve arrived, you can receive the latest deals through the app via push notifications, meaning that the app can help you to save money on this and future stays. The Montcalm App is totally free, and is available from the App Store and Google Play for iOS and Android.
UK Bus Checker:

Citymapper and Google Maps are justifiably renowned for their level of detail, user friendliness and up-to-date information, and are a must for any travelers phone. So, assuming you’ve already got them, we recommend something less obvious but just as useful, particularly in London. The UK Bus Checker is a free app which provides live bus and train times, journey planning and routes for every one of Great Britain’s 300,000 bus stops and train stations. This is nowhere as handy as in London, where the old adage about waiting an age for a bus only for two to turn up at once, sadly, still rings true – as any Londoner will tell you. With this in mind, this app can help you decide whether you should jump on a bus or head for the train or Tube. It’s free of charge, and available for iOS and Android.
