I never thought that it’s possible to actually be an active for 24 hours until I visited New York City. It is indeed the city that never sleeps.
Start the morning by hitting central park to jog or brisk walk. Have it followed by tasting the best bagels in New York, which can be found at H & H Midtown Bagels East. A heavy breakfast is what you’ll need to survive if you plan to roam the city for 24 hours. And I have to tell you that their bagel is absolutely HEAVY enough for you to endure the entire day!
The great thing about New York is that everywhere seems to be within walking distance. You don’t need to drive a car just to go from one place to another and that’s also the reason why people in this State are more of commuters than car owners. New York is also famous for their yellow cabs. If you want to skip the adventure of going to the Subway, then taking a cab will be a good idea.
Your New York trip is never complete without visiting the Smithsonian Institution where in you get to explore their museums and zoo. The great thing about going museum hopping in New York is that most of their 19 museums including the National Zoological Park is FREE! This is perfect if you love a lot of trivia and you have a strong appreciation for visual arts. Their galleries will leave you breathless with such world-class masterpieces.
This city is also the home of one my favorite libraries in the world- the New York Public Library that is located in Manhattan. It is also the most massive public library in the United States. They hold the largest amount of books in North America and if you’re a book-lover, there is no way that you should miss visiting it.
Now if you’re the type who is not content of just browsing books inside libraries but the idea of owning them as part of your collection is actually a must, then there is no other place that you should check but the Strand bookstore. This is where you can get the best deals when it comes to previously owned books. This is the largest bookstore that sells 2nd hand and even rare types of books! It is located at the East Village of New York, which is filled with people who are mostly musicians and artists. They are open from 9:30 am to 10:30 pm every day. And if you would want to grab on some unique books, you must get to the store before 6:15 pm, which is the closing time for their Rare Book Room. Hurry up or you’ll just have to wait for another day.
If you’re a tourist and you really want to make the most out of your visit, I suggest skipping the gourmets and leaping for their street foods! It’s impossible to stay hungry in this city when in almost every corner of the street; you’ll find a van that would appear to be a store selling all the goodness of New York’s street food culture.
You can eat a variety of dishes on visiting every van, from burgers to lobsters! The Lobster Mac & Cheese by the Red Hook Lobster pound is a must to be experienced! Do not leave New York City without tasting it because I would say you’d be missing a lot. For only $10, prepare yourself for a smile that will reach your ears because its melted cheese can surely melt your heart. You just have to be patient on falling in line because they are pretty in demand.
Now in case you haven’t heard of it, but New York City is actually famous for their Broadway Musicals. Experience entertainment live in action on Broadway theatre located near Time Square. You can now order your tickets online to avoid the hassle of being ripped off by scalpers. If you haven’t seen Miss Saigon, then it’s time that you see it live performed by the city’s best and award winning artists.
If you think that watching Broadway is your last stop, I’d dare you to think again because the city is just beginning to be awaken when the clock strikes 10! Clubs are everywhere and it’s up to you to pick which one will satisfy your artistic and entertainment craving. Choose from jazz clubs, poetry clubs, comedy clubs, dance clubs and open mic clubs. If you think you got the music in you, then maybe it’s time that you shine and take the stage in one of the open mic clubs in New York.
New York is all about the arts, culture and most definitely- food! And if you’re a big fan of the hit TV show Seinfeld, visiting this city is a priority.
