When it is just you, or just you and your spouse on a road trip it can be pretty easy going. Although, if you throw your children into the mix, it can go from easy going to overwhelming in just a few minutes!
If you plan on taking a road trip with your children in the near future, here are some helpful tips to make it as smooth, and as enjoyable as possible.
Timing: If you have a real little one, try to time most of the trip for when they’re sleeping. This can be early morning or during their nap time. The trip will be easiest and most calm when they’re sleeping and relaxed. Timing is everything when it comes to children.
Items: It’s a good idea to make a list of things you want to bring for your children a few days before you leave. It is very easy to forget all the things they need on a daily basis. Between bottles, diapers, pack n’plays, and bathroom necessities, it can be hard to keep track! So, planning a head can give you a few days to see what items they need regularly each day.
Entertainment: Keeping your children entertained on a road trip can be difficult. So, my advice to you is to bring their portable DVD players, coloring books, Nintendos, and toys to play with! Also, keep talking to your children so they are entertained, and know what’s going on. It also wouldn’t hurt to stop at a few rest areas with neat shops along the way!
Rest: Traveling long hours in a car can be boring and uncomfortable for anyone. So, make sure you take breaks, stop at rest areas when they’re ahead, and be sure to stop for a hotel early so your children can burn off their energy, and still enjoy the trip!
Traveling with children isn’t always easy. It can become a noisy, uncomfortable, and boring ride very easily if you don’t consider a few of these tips above!
